AZ Alkmaar has bought a new player in the form of Muamer Tankovic who was a free agent after leaving the English Premier League club Fulham.
Tankovic who belongs to Sweden was actually being offered contract extension by Fulham, but, he didn’t accept that because he was not getting sufficient amount of playing time for the first team there.
Tankovic had joined Fulham at the beginning of the 2011-12 Season and since then; he had got only 3 Premier League matches to play.
Tankovic was a demanded player when he was signed by Fulham 3 years back. So, he was supposed to get playing chances, but, for some reason, in the past three seasons, he continuously remained out of favour as far as the first team football is concerned.
Talking to the reporters after signing for Alkmaar, Tankovic said, “Fulham’s condition in the last season was not that good. They were battling against relegation and the manager there decided to show more confidence on the experienced players rather than the youngsters.”
“During my tenure at Fulham, I learnt quite a few things, but, I couldn’t have stayed there anymore. Here at Alkmaar, I am going to get the opportunity to play under Marco van Basten who is a legendary manager.”
“I like to play exciting brand of football. I set up goals for my teammates, but, at the same time, I also look to find the net myself.”
Last season, Tankovic was made to play for the junior side of Fulham and he had done pretty well featuring for that side. He would like to carry on that form of his to the Dutch league.
Tankovic’s best years are surely ahead of him as he is just 19 years of age right now. He would like to make big impact for Alkmaar in the next couple of years and catch the eyes of some top clubs.
