Billy Beane made a name for himself in the world of baseball due to the system that he used to evaluate players as he helped the Oakland Athletics on signing fairly underrated and undervalued players by utilizing sabermetrics which allowed the team on having a small payroll from those players.
The innovation and strategies that Billy Beane has utilized as the general manager of Oakland Athletics expand from one sport to another as the Dutch football club Az Alkmaar have been so impressed by what Billy Beane has been doing that they signed him to the club as Billy has accepted taking up an advisory role at Az Alkmaar.
The general director of Az Alkmaar, Robert Eenhoorn confirmed Billy Beane’s advisory role in the club as Eeehoorn said: “We’ve had a lot of contact with Billy In the last few months. His knowledge and ideas are impressive. Also Billy’s soccer network is excellent. We have already noticed that Billy thinks two steps ahead in the area of innovation. That’s what really connects with the ambitions of AZ.”
Beane is accustomed to developing top teams on very limited resources and this is one of the main reasons on why Az Alkmaar decided to put him on board with the team. His tactics were the inspiration of the 2003 book of Michael Lewis titled as: ‘’Moneyball’’which was later adapted into a film which starred Brad Pitt as his tactics and approach when evaluating players was displayed in theaters and now it’s being used all over the world.
The 53 years old front office executive Billy Beane announced his excitement in joining the team of Az Alkmaar as Beane stated that his love for football made this an easy decision to make.
