AZ Alkmaar star Aron Johannsson recently made his debut for the national team. He was picked by United States national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann for the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina and played for 30 minutes in the match after the US managed a 4-3 victory. Johannsson was also named as one of the favourites to start, according to the sports betting markets.
Johannsson has said that he is happy with his performance on the pitch, but he is confident that he can deliver more for the national team in the future. He is obviously delighted at making his debut, and he is hoping to be on the first-team regular basis.
For the moment, though, the 22-year-old is concentrating only on his club career. He has become an influential part of the AZ Alkmaar team since joining the club in January. He has made 10 appearances for the club and has already scored 6 goals. The departure of his compatriot Jozy Altidore has made the 22-year-old as one of the regular starters at AZ Alkmaar. The Dutch club has made a decent start to the league campaign after winning two out of the last three matches. As a result, they currently sit seventh in the table with six points on the board.
Johannsson is expected to be part of the US team in the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
“It was nice to get my first minutes for the national team. I was anxious the whole game and waiting, waiting for an opportunity to come in. I came in and I think I did OK. Maybe I should have scored one goal. But hopefully I’ll do better next game and try to score goals. I just have to keep on playing well and keep playing well in my team in Holland and I sure want to be on that roster and I hope I will,” said Johannsson.
