Sergio Romero Recalls Time Spent With AZ Alkmaar

Manchester United has a lot of connections with the Dutch football and it continues through the presence of goalkeeper Sergio Romero. Despite being an Argentine, the 31-year-old made his name in European football with AZ Alkmaar. He played under the team constructed by Louis van Gaal and ended up winning the Dutch Eredivisie title in 2009. Even though he has not been able to win any league title since making the move to Manchester United in 2015, the 31-year-old has lifted a whole host of cup titles like the FA Cup, Europa League, and the League Cup.

Romero was one of the highly talented Argentine goalkeepers coming through the ranks during the early part of the century. He only played a few games for his first professional club – Racing Club – before AZ Alkmaar spotted him in 2007. John Van Den Brom Extends Contract With AZ Alkmaar Until 2019

John Van Den Brom has been able to extend his contract with AZ Alkmaar until the middle of 2019. After having been in charge of AZ Alkmaar since 2014, Van Den Brom has repeatedly extended his desire to be in charge of the team for much longer. Even though Eredivisie has seen repeated dominance from the likes of PSV and Ajax, AZ Alkmaar has also been able to get some incredible success over the last few years.

Even in the current 2017-18 campaign, the club is battling with the likes of Ajax for a Champions League qualification spot. At the moment, the club is in the Europa League places with a significant advantage over Feyenoord. AZ Alkmaar would appreciate the continuity and stability provided by Van Den Brom, who is now entering into his fifth campaign with the club. During this period, he has been linked with moves to the Premier League and other top divisions.

John van den Brom ready to extend contract with AZ Alkmaar

John van den Brom claims that he is extremely happy with life at AZ Alkmaar and even wants to renew his contract with the club. The 51-year-old was appointed as the AZ Alkmaar manager back in 2014. His previous experience in Dutch football was with the likes of SBV Vitesse. However, he came to prominence during his time at Belgian outfit Anderlecht. Since coming to AZ Alkmaar three years ago, he has been able to claim no successes with the team. As a player, he managed to win the likes of the Dutch Eredivisie and the Champions League with Ajax.

Now, there are rumours that Ajax may be in for the 51-year-old after having recently sacked their manager Keizer. Ajax have so far done reasonably well in terms of the league form, but cup competitions have seen the worst from the club. After failures in the Champions League and Europa League, Ajax decided to act on their manager and bring in an interim boss before a permanent solution was found. However, this permanent solution may not come in the form of van den Brom, as he is no longer in with a view to join Ajax. In fact, van den Brom appears to be extremely happy at AZ Alkmaar and would even extend his contract with the club.

AZ Alkmaar: Two Players to Watch

Over the years, Holland has been one of the elite nations in terms of producing young football talent. You think of the world famous system they have at Ajax, which has brought through some of the legends of the game including Johann Cruyff and Dennis Bergkamp.

Now there is another less high profile club starting to gain a big reputation for nurturing youngsters and that is AZ Alkmaar. The club currently sit in fourth place in the Dutch Eredivisie and with the conveyor belt of talent coming through, things are looking good for them.

John van den Brom Supports Janssen’s Move to Fenerbahce

AZ Alkmaar manager John van den Brom claims that Tottenham forward Vincent Janssen may have made a great decision with regard to his move to Fenerbahce on a loan deal.


The Dutch forward came to the club with high expectations for around £ 16 million. He had been scoring plenty of goals for his AZ Alkmaar before the move to Tottenham, but this led to a lot of troubles for the player.Janssen failure to settle in the English Premier league was down to a lot of factors, and he was also not playing regularly in the team. As a result, he ended up scoring just a handful of goals in an entire campaign with the club.

At the start of the season, there were rumours aboutJanssen being allowed to leave on a loan deal with the Tottenham being keen on bringing in Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon. Stengs Ruled Out

AZ Alkmaar winger Calvin Stengs has sustained an injury on the opening day of the season in the match against PSV Eindhoven. This injury means that the winger will be missing the rest of the season.

This will be a disappointment for Calvin Stengs who was looking to have a great season this term. In a previous interview, the winger said that he was excited to be part of the AZ Alkmaar side and that he will do everything he can in order to get enough playing time in the first team.
